Our mission
Bluebird Insurance exists because the hardest part of short-term motor cover is not the insurance — it is getting a request in front of an insurer in a form they will actually accept, and understanding what you are buying before you pay for it.
First published . Checked against our editorial policy and re-reviewed whenever the underlying rules change.
The problem we set out to solve
Annual motor policies assume one driver, one car, every day of the year. A great deal of UK driving does not look like that: collecting a car you have just bought, practising with a parent, moving a house with a hired van, covering a colleague for a week, or releasing a vehicle from an impound within a deadline.
In those situations people are routinely quoted for the wrong product, sent to an insurer that will never accept them, or asked for information nobody explained the purpose of. The result is wasted money and, worse, drivers taking journeys believing they are covered when they are not.
What we actually do
We are not an insurer, underwriter, broker or insurance intermediary. We prepare documents and a request. You answer the questions insurers ask, we format that into the template they require, and we forward it. If an insurer accepts, the insurer issues the certificate of motor insurance and policy schedule and registers the policy on the Motor Insurance Database.
The only documents that put you on risk are the ones the insurer sends. Our estimate is an estimate, and we say so on every screen where a figure appears.
The standards we hold ourselves to
Three commitments shape every decision on this site.
- Tell people what they are buying before they pay, in the words a court would use, not marketing language.
- Show an eligibility problem at the start of the journey rather than at the payment screen.
- Refund the preparation fee in full when an insurer declines a request we forwarded.
How you can hold us to it
Our terms of business set the contractual version of these promises, our editorial policy governs how the guidance on this site is written and reviewed, and our complaints procedure explains what happens when we get something wrong — including the timescales we work to.
