Short-term motor cover is a regulated product sold by regulated firms. Bluebird is not one of them, and this page states our position precisely so nobody is left guessing about who is responsible for what.

Our regulatory status

Klaptocz Consultants Limited, trading as Bluebird Insurance, is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. We do not advise on insurance, arrange contracts of insurance, deal as agent, or assist in the administration and performance of a contract of insurance. Our service is the preparation of document templates and the forwarding of details you supply.

Which rules do apply to us

Consumer law applies in full. That includes the Consumer Rights Act 2015 for the quality of the service, the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 for your 14-day cancellation right on a distance contract, the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008, and UK GDPR together with the Data Protection Act 2018 for your personal data.

The insurer's responsibilities

The insurer that accepts a forwarded request is an FCA-authorised firm. It sets the premium, issues the certificate of motor insurance and policy schedule, registers the policy on the Motor Insurance Database, handles claims and mid-term changes, and is answerable to the Financial Ombudsman Service for those activities.

Escalation routes

Complaints about our preparation service go to complaints@bluebirdinsurance.co.uk and follow our complaints procedure. Complaints about a policy, a premium, a claim or a declined request are for the insurer, and if unresolved after eight weeks they can go to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Data protection concerns can be escalated to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Anti-fraud

Deliberately misstating a driver's age, address, licence history or claims record to obtain a lower price is insurance fraud. Insurers check applications against industry anti-fraud databases, and a policy obtained on false information can be voided from the start, leaving the driver uninsured and liable. We pass on what you tell us; we do not edit or improve it.
